The Wharton Undergraduate Real Estate Club is committed to educating its constituents and fostering an intellectual environment in which students can learn, network, and build foundations for success in real estate. We achieve our goals through a series of lectures and general body meetings designed to not only sharpen our members’ business acumen but provide an engaging social outlet for those interested in the industry.
The Wharton Undergraduate Real Estate Club has continued it’s exponential growth from this past year to become one of the most active clubs in the Wharton community. We now have over 300 members and have attendance, on average, of nearly 30 students per event. We have expanded upon the level of excellance of previous real estate clubs through providing increased access the Zell/Lurie Mentorship Program and Resume Book. We have also heavily emphasized the fact that Real Estate is an area of passion in which connections are increasingly important. Due to this, the Zell/Lurie Ballard Lunch Series has gained increasing attendance from the undergraduate contingent and we are working closely with the Real Estate Center to identify and assist with any student who is currently without a job. Some of our featured speakers this past Spring were professionals such as Scott Wolestein and Ron Moelis. We also held a Prudential Sponsored Real Estate Recruiting Panel with representatives from PMCC, PREI, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Vornado Realty Trust that had an attendance of nearly 60 students. We have also held a lecture by Wharton Professor and real estate icon, Peter Linneman. We have also increasingly co-sponsored and attended Wharton MBA Real Estate Club events and have had a productive relationship with them by working with them on their Real Estate 101 Lecture by Professor Joe Gyourko and their Real Estate Finance Panel.
We have expanded our events to site visits and have toured the Comcast Center with Liberty Property Trust’s John Gattuso. We are also planning on a site trek to New York on December 4th and cosponsoring this trek with the Business Fraternity DSP. We have also instituted a freshman board structure that has proven to be a huge asset and has helped us to create more opportunities for our membership and greater attendance at our events while building the next generation of club leadership.
We are currently working to plan for next semester and are looking forward to increased interested in the Wharton Undergraduate Real Estate Club as recruiting for juniors becomes a preeminant focus of the club. We plan to have our annual Senior’s Panel, A Lecture updating our membership about the current state of the market and multiple recruiting events to start the Spring. The WUREC has grown by five times in active membership over the past three years and we plan to continue this success in the next semester.
2010 Masters of Real Estate Lecture Series
Beginning in the Spring, the club will offer its members the opportunity to engage some of the most influential minds in our industry. These intimate town hall Q&A sessions are designed to bring together the great minds of today with the great minds of tomorrow in intellectually vibrant forum.
2009 – 2010 Monthly General Body Meetings
Our general body meetings provide much more than the opportunity for members to discuss club business. Each general body meeting is highlighted by a panel discussion on a selected real estate topic chosen by our Executive Committee. We only invite the very best professionals and academics to take part in our panel discussions which are designed to engage students in a lively debate on the current state of our industry.
